Match Reports:
Div 1 6th/10/07
Franklands Village 2 Buxted 2
Buxted regrouped after last Saturday's cup set-back to earn a valuable
away point, taking the lead with an incisive move between Richard
Ambrose and Stuart Cairns finished with a near post header by Josh
Delmon. More scoring opportunities were created and missed before the
break, after which Buxted developed a tendency to overplay the ball.
Franklands equalised wityh Delmon off the pitch with nose bleed and then
went on to score a second against their reshuffled visitors. Buxted
gathered themselves and with a few moments remaining, Neil Felstein
hooked in an Andy Reid cross for a deserved share of the points.
Midfielder David Mumford, playing at right full back, was the
outstanding player for the visitors
Div. 1 13th/10/07
Wisdom Sports 11 1
Buxted 2
Despite the absence of some key players, including influential skipper
Neil Felstein, Buxted contrived to extend its unbeaten league run with a
last gasp smash and grab win at Wisdom Sports. Only an excellent saving
tackle prevented David Patrick opening the scoring on half time during a
first period when strikers on both sides were restricted by good
defending to long range efforts. Wisdom went ahead after the break when
their striker was first to the ball after Buxted 'keeper Clive White had
repelled a free kick low at the near post. The visitors reacted
positively to the set-back, Matt Hughes, Dave Mumford and James Muddle
started to assert themselves in the middle and James Bonella was proving
a handfull down the left flank. With ten minutes remaining, sub. Mark
Jamieson headed in the equaliser from Bonella's accurate cross, and it
was Bonella in the dying seconds who snatched the winner with another
header, this time from Stuart Cairns' super near post corner. An
excellent all round Buxted performance, with James Bonella the visitor's
undoubted man of the match for his tireless running, left flank raiding
and that oh so late goal!
Montgomery Cup 20th
/10/07
Buxted 0 Sporting Lindfield 2
Buxted continued its Jekyll and Hyde/League and Cup form with a lack-lustre
performance against its visitors. Bereft of a handfull of key players,
including both first choice strikers, senior debuts were given to Ross
Delmon, Wayne Bristow and Craig Benson, all of whom acquited themselves
well. Delmon was very tidy on the left flank and indeed was the host's
man of the match. Bristow worked tirelessly in midfield until a leg
strain forced his second half exit and Benson, on as a substitute showed
with a deft reverse pass that he has what it takes. A 3-5-2 line up
accomodated the enforced team changes but a goal either side of the
break put Lindfield through. Sweeper Dave Mumford slipped at a crucial
moment and the cross from the right presented the visitor's striker with
an open goal. For the second, the defence failed to prevent another
cross from the right and the unattended striker headed in low at the far
post. Buxted seemed unable to deliver a damaging ball into Lidfields
goal area, either from a dead ball situation or from open play and
spurned the few chances that did come their way. Ploughing forward when
he could, Jimmy Whitmarsh did his best to set an example and midfielders
Neil Felstein and Matty Hughes had their moments but overall it was a
flat performance in a game that never sparkled - at least not for Buxted
Mid-Sussex League Div 1
Buxted 1 Uckfield 2nds 2 27th October 07
This was an improved performance by Buxted against a powerful and
experienced Uckfield that is enjoying good league and cup results to
date. Most of the play was confined to the Buxted half and the central
back three of Karl Harrison, Kevin Mcdougall and Jimmy Whitmarsh deserve
plaudits for limiting the visitors free scoring forwards to just the two
goals. With the enforced pre-occupation with defence and the midfield
pinned back, very few chaces were created in attack but Stuart Cairns
and pacy David Patrick did their best with the few crumbs that fell
their way. The visitors opened the scoring on the half hour when a high
ball eluded Whitmarsh and Harrison and 'keeper Clive White was not quick
enough to the ball to prevent the striker, who had anticipated the
situation, firing home unattended. Close to the break some effective
interplay reulted in Cairns volleying over a difficult chance.Chasing
the game and under constant pressure in the second period, Buxted
conceded the second score when the Uckfield flanker was allowed to cross
into a deserted penalty area and the striker duly despatched the gift. A
late flourish saw Patrick's accurate corner firmly headed in by sub Josh
Delmon but it was too late and the final whistle came almost
immediately. Buxted's star player on the day was the resolute Whitmarsh
who stuck doggedly to a difficult defensive task

Div 1 Buxted 1
Turners Hill 0
Although not playing to its best, Buxted returned to
winning ways in a closely contested game. The highlights of an
even first halfwere a Buxted goal disallowed for off side, and some
quality stops, including a full length finger tip save from a freekick
by keeper Clive White. The hosts second ball winning and passing
improved after the break and the deadlock was broken after 20 minutes
when excellent hassling by Ross Delmon and David Patrick forced a poor
clearance, the ball fell to Matt Hughes whos lob beat the keeper but
rebounded off the bar to Stu Cairns who duly finished. Buxted
created more chances but failed to take advantage, and survived a late
scare to take the three points. There were notable performances from
Cairns with first class hold up play and midfield engine Neil Felstein
who won just about every ball, whether it was in the air or on the
ground. However, Buxteds player of the day was the versatile and
consistent Mark Jamieson, this time rock solid at centreback.

Div 1 Buxted 2 Hurstpierpoint 1
Buxted produced another solid, rather than spectacular, performance in
coming from behind in a close game to take the three points. The hosts
had started to dominate towards the end of an even first half which
closed level. However the two good late chances created by the hosts,
although squandered, might have hinted at what was to come. Even though
they went behind in the second period when a speculative long shot
bobbled to find its way in off stand-in keeper David Patrick's hand
Buxted remained positive and continued to create chances. Twenty minutes
from the whistle and the reward came when Stuart Cairns latched on to an
excellent through ball from Josh Delmon and finished with a flourish,
lobbing the ball over the on-rushing Hurst 'keeper. Five minutes to go
and tireless Delmon put over a cross come shot that was fumbled in by
the "keeper for Buxted to nudge in front. Although still not at its
best, the Buxted combination of hard work and organisation, interspersed
with good football again proved to be the winning formula. Praise is due
to stand in 'keeper, striker Patrick who looked comfortable and never
allowed the goal against to effect his confidence, midfielders Neil
Felstein and James Muddle and the back three of Kevin McDougall, Karl
Harrison and Mark Jamieson and the MOM Cairns who held up play, always
looked to be creating and scored the all important equaliser

Buxted 1 Old Vardeanians 3 24th Nov 2007
Buxted eschewed the opportunity to top the division in a performance
dogged by some sloppy defending and a return to verbal indiscipline and
squabling amongst the team. Buxted must rid itself of this fault to have
any chance of a return to the premiership - it is a fault that opponents
will exploit. The visitors came slowly into the game after a bright
start by the hosts, the front pairing of Stuart Cairns and Toby Arnold,
on his debut, combining well but failing to convert. Buxted's
frustration and wrangling grew as Vardeanians gained control and ten
minutes before the break capitalised on the ensuing lack of
concentration by Buxted, heading in unmarked from a corner. The re-start
saw Buxted gaining some control and the pace of Scott Richards, another
promoted player,
almost paid off, but a penalty claim was rejected when he was brought
down. Both sides were confined to long range efforts until the visitors
went further ahead when an attempted headed clearance was parried by
'keeper David Patrick (still standing in for the injured Clive White)
and then bundled over the line. The third came when Patrick superbly
tipped a shot onto the bar only to see a Vardeanian striker react
quickest to fire home. Buxted's consolation goal came with the last kick
of the game when Neil Felstein dispatched the penalty awarded when he
was pushed over in the box. The hosts MOM was Kevin McDougall who
marshalled the back line with good authority and skill.
Div 1 Wivelsfield Green 3
Buxted 4 Dec 15 07
With just five minutes on the clock, a Matt Harding free kick dropped
over the last Wivelfield defender to David Patrick who smashed home a
twenty yard volley to seal a remarkable win for the visitors. At half
time things looked pretty grim, 3-1 down and striker Stuart Cairns
injured and unable to resume. The only sub was Joern Kroeger an outfield
player only available because of the 3rd team eleventh hour
postponement. The first period had seen the hosts take full advantage of
arial superiority to put three past stand-in 'keeper Patrick, regular
'keeper Clive White still being out injured. All three goals came from
dead ball situations, one early corner eluding the defence to go in
direct, one free kick headed in and another put in by a striker.
Buxted's response was a superb individual effort by Scott Richards who
picked up the ball just inside the Wivelsfield half, surged past two
players and stepped inside the third challenge to finish with a low
drive past the 'keeper. Buxted's response to the half time situation was
risky. Untested Kroeger took over in goal allowing Patrick to resume in
his normal striker position. But It worked! The midfield trio of
Harding, Dave Mumford and Toby Arnold started to win more possession and
the pace of Patrick and Richards was unsettling the hosts. On sixty five
minutes a free kick fell to the impressive Harding who duly despatched
his shot low into the corner. With ten minutes to go Patrick broke free
on the left of the box and struck a fierce shot across the 'keeper to
level. After his winner, Buxted saw out the game to take the points.
Patrick's second half display and two goals showed what the team had
been missing during his spell as stand-in 'keeper and the tireless
running from Richards was impressive. But the visitor's MOM was Mat
Harding who, on his senior debut showed great skills and epitomised the
team's battling qualities. Perhaps not the best footballing performance
of the season but to come back from 3-1 down after looking dead and
buried showed great character. Not to forget of course the part played
by Kroeger who remarkably kept a second half clean sheet to give the
strikers their chance.
Div
1 Buxted 0 Wisdom Sports 2nds 1 26-11-08
The hosts raised their game in the second period, winning more mid-field
possesion but still not creating any clear chances at goal and it was
not enough to overcome the first half deficit when after fifteen minutes
the Wisdom winger was given space and time to cross to an unmarked
striker. A disappointing result, one postive being the second half debut
performance in midfield of Chris Vincent. Buxted's MOM was Karl
Harrison, who had a solid game at the heart of defence
