Our first league game of October was away at
Lewes Bridgeview; we dominated for long periods and deserved at
least a point but left with nothing after squandering several good
chances - losing 1-0.
The early exchanges were very much even with
both sides carving out half chances, but it was the two defences
that were on top. After an entertaining stalemate in the first half
Buxted started to become more dominate early in the second period
and created two clear-cut chances to open the scoring, both chances
falling to Pedley. First he fell over his own feet when clear one on
one with the keeper and then put a diving header over the bar when
it was harder to miss than score! Our failure to capitalise on our
domination was punished when a Lewes goal kick was allowed to bounce
and Dale Mayhew then headed into his own net as he tried to cushion
the ball back to Clift in goal. Despite late pressure we were unable
to find an equaliser; we had lost a game that we dominated for large
periods.
