2006 / 2007 Season 16/09/2006
This was not the clubs finest afternoon.
Faced by a visiting squad sporting five subs and including four of
their disbanded 1st eleven, Buxted could only manage to turn out a
side with only two survivors from last weeks encouraging opening
game. The seconds had no central defenders, three players from
the thirds (Who rushed off at the end to appear in the thirds away
game) one player handicapped with an injury and an O.A.P. We
had no subs, though Nuno turned up for the second half and did well.
The complete list of 55 registered players had been consulted with
no success, so short of reducing the thirds to less than a team, we
played all we could. glad I got that off my chest!!
As to the game itself, we found ourselves two
down inside two minutes and five down by the half time whistle.
Despite the fact that Wes Gilbert was sent off early in the second
half for winning a shirt pulling contest whilst he was last man, the
team actually improved and confined the score to just seven, almost
a feat in the circumstances.
We hope that this is a one off not to be
repeated!
The cobbled together defence of Wes, Richard
turner and Ben Thomas ran their proverbials off (A forth defender
could not be found until the O.A.P hobbled back to give at least one
goal away!)
Muddles and Tinker were back in action, and
Andy Harper partly atoned for a disastrous early fumble by pulling
off some quite outstanding stops.
Man of the match was BEN THOMAS who
never gave up on a chase.
Sadly this was the swan song for JJ who is
moving house and home to Oxfordshire. Pity he never had a
better send off.
Apologies to the spectators...
