A much improved Buxted, for
much of the game the better side, contrived to find themselves
two goals down by the turnaround. The third came very early in
the second period when Slaughter conceded a penalty,
where keeper Patrick made a terrific initial save, only for the
swift footed Willingdon striker to clean up the scraps. New
signing Terry Walker on his debut pulled one back and also hit a
post and the crossbar, and the visitors keeper pulled off a
stunning save from Johnny Barton. The score respectable but no
reflection of the all round Buxted performance, in which
defender Russ Curd was outstanding.
