In a close, sometimes controversial game,
Buxted showed great spirit in clawing back a two goal deficit
against high scoring promotion hopefuls Danehill. the point
earned could prove invaluable in the fight against relegation.
the two goals conceded in the first half were given away rather than
earned. the first followed from a mis-directed clearance by
Clive white which was lobbed back into an empty net., the second
from a defensive slip. Buxted were unable to take advantage of
the chances that came their way. But, the team were working
well together and giving Danehill plenty of problems, with Gavin
Horne, Wes Gilbert, JJ Moody and Mat Garside prominent ably
supported by the rest of the hard working squad.
Late in the half a penalty was awarded to
Buxted when Ricky Parish was unfairly stopped just before Garside
netted. Ricky was on target but the Danehill keeper was
presented with an easy save. The second half saw Buxted
dominate proceedings with chances being made and missed until a
second penalty was easily converted by Gavin Horne with an
unstoppable strike. Time seemed to be running out when late
substitute Dave Crowhurst latched on to a loose ball and fired in
from close range.
Last minute lapses during Danehill breakaways
were voided and the points were duly shared. Man of the match
goes to Gavin Horne for a faultless defensive display.
