Oh dear! Having just won seven points off
three of the divisions best sides , Buxted crashed to Ditchling, who
had replaced them at the basement. There was no single reason
for the reversal of fortunes - Buxted fielded a strong team (Despite
some late defections), played some good committed football and were
on top for most of the game. A handful of just missed chances
and defensive slips at the start of each half gifted ditchling a two
goal lead. This left Buxted chasing the game uphill on a
steeply sloping pitch. Stuart cairns pulled one back with an
emphatic, well placed effort and Buxted pushed forward for more.
inevitably, given the run of the ball, they succumbed to a well
taken breakaway goal that sealed the game for Ditchling.
So, defensive slips, missed chances, sloping
pitch, dogged Ditchling defendingor just bad luck...whatever the
reason or reasons the points were gone with the wind. Luckily
tomorrow is another day.
