In many ways this result was as satisfying as
the first win achieved last month. One point was won rather than
two lost against Fairfield, comfortably mid-table, in a hard fought
end to end match on a sticky pitch which did not suit the Buxted
close play. A quick break by Fairfield early in the second half saw
them take the lead after a level first period, only for noodles to
level almost immediately following a typical long punt by Clive
Whyte.
Mike Tampkin Rattled the Fairfield bar early in
the game and a low drive by Dean Morris was just finger-tipped onto
the post in the dying minutes, other than that we had few realistic
chances to add to our score.
The confidence in the side stemmed from the
assured performances of centre-backs Ricky Parish and Gavin Horne
and the safe handling of Clive Whyte. The ball was passed out of
defence rather than being hacked and Clives kicking constantly had
Fairfield scrambling backwards a special thank-you to Pat west who
joined the squad at the last minute and ran the line for most of the
game – we need club spirit like this!
Man of the match was Gavin Horne in his debut
game for the seconds.
