Fielding possibly the strongest side (at least
on paper) that it is likely to put out this season, Buxted still
contrived to lose 0 - 1 th Handcross, a team just above them at the
foot of the table. Continuing the erratic defensive play of
the previous game, the Handcross goal arrived late in the first half
following a slip at the back, one of many which might have caught us
out during a dtrangely featureless game.
There were times when we seemed to have the
measure of the tall, dogged Handcross defence but meaningful efforts
on the Handcross goal were few and far between. Noodles had
one fierce shot parried by the keeper, who had a fine game, and
Richard Turner's final shot did not match the good end to end move
that he had started. Few performances stood out; Clive
Whyte was secure in goal, Matt Harding had a very good first half
and Russell Kurd was his usual industrious self.
The subs who were on the bench despite good
performances the previous week were naturally disappointed but when
they came on, Dave Crowhurst, JJ Moody and Johnny Barton did enough
to demonstrate their value to the squad. But this was a bad
game to lose, make no mistake!
