2005 / 2006 Season 04/03/2006
Yet again late withdrawals reduced a fourteen
man squad down to a bare eleven - and that included Mike Tampkin
with a strained back and Pat West (Who acquitted himself well) who
was drafted in from the thirds. However, the post match
feeling was that this was two points lost rather than one saved,
even though Buxted had to come back from behind. Several good
scoring opportunities were made and missed - two in the opening
minutes.
Lingfield went ahead late in the first half
following some sloppy Buxted defending. It took another
Noodles special for Buxted to level in the second half, Lingfield
stood off until Noodles (Who took the throw-in) maneuvered himself
into position to fire in a 20 yard left-foot strike.
Thereafter Buxted were clearly on top but were unable to find that
final decisive throughball and lapsed into too many long range
efforts.
Given the long break due to cancelled games the
team played well enough in front of a sound defence in which ricky
parish was outstanding. Sadly top scorer Noodles (16 in all
comps to date) suffered a late hamstring injury and will be out of
action for a few weeks as a result.
this single point was enough to lift the
seconds off the foot of the table on goal difference - reward for
tight defending over the past few months. man of the match
goes to the flawless Ricky Parish, who didn't put a foot wrong.
