The post tournament consensus of the second
team squad (Gavin Horne(c), Dale McIvor, Ricky Parish, Dean Morris,
JJ, Noodles, Richard Turner) that finished runners up in their group
was that they failed to make the latter stages due to a drawn game
they should have won.

Their first opponents (Heath Pilgrims) were a
volatile, physically demanding squad, but two well made and taken
goals by Noodles (a fine controlled drive) and JJ gave Buxted a 2 -
0 winning start. Perhaps it was due to the waiting, or some
over confidence but despite several good chances the team could not
put the ball in the back of the net against Newick Rugby FC.
indeed a breakaway goal may have lost them the match which
eventually ended 0 - 0.
Buxted needed to win the last match but went
down 1 - 4 against opponents who had a forward with an unerring eye
for goal. this despite an opening score by Richard Turner - a
piledriver from just inside the halfway line that amazed
everyone who saw it, especially Richard himself!
The seconds man of the tournament was
Dale McIvor but the whole squad should be applauded for finishing in
the top half of the 48 teams that took part. It was an
excellent day both socially and as part of preparation for the
coming season. Buxted should continue to support this long
standing tournament.
