Buxted Earnt themselves a heartening Christmas
present with a handsome win (Their first league points) over Scaynes
Hill II the division 5 high flyers. A decent playing surface
enabled the more skilled Buxted side to perform close to their
potential, following the debacle in the mud the previous Saturday.
The writing was on the wall for the impressive
looking home side, when despite early pressure on the reshuffled
Buxted back line, Buxted took the lead on 30 minutes – a fine cross
field ball from Ricky Parish neatly lobbed over the keeper by Adam
Smith. Two more well taken goals in the second half wrapped the
game up – the first from Stuart Cairns latching on to a headed
through ball by Ben Thomas, the second to Noodles when Scaynes hill
were unable to clear a Dean Morris out-swinging corner.
Buxted had other chances to add to the score
but tellingly, Scaynes Hill were confined to long range efforts,
easily mopped up by Clive Whyte – although one did scrap the post.
This win was based on sound skilful defence with Ricky Parish and
Kevin McDougall giving accomplished performances and Richard Turner
and Russ Kurd shutting down the wings. Our Midfield were posing all
sorts of problems, Dale McIvor and JJ Moody were outstanding and
nicely balanced the tireless running of Adam Smith and Ben Thomas.
Dean Morris later posed different problems with his left foot
crosses and was unlucky not to score…with his right foot! Up front
Noodles and Stuart Cairns constantly menaced the Scaynes Hill goal.
Buxted trooped off Wearily, because Scaynes
Hill fought hard to the end, but at least they had collected the
points. Welcome back to Stuart Cairns, following a long period of
injury and a thank you to Adam Smith and Kevin McDougall for filling
in at very late notice, also to Dave Butcher and Dougie for
touchline support. This was a good Saturday for the club, and with
games in hand gives the seconds a chance to avoid the drop.
