Calculators at the ready for this bottom of the
table six pointer! On the coldest Saturday of the season so far
Buxted finally lit the touch paper from the start and got off to a
flyer. Within the first 10 minutes Johnny Barton had put us ahead
after a fine cross from the right foot of Chris Scott was knocked
down into his path by Ricky Parish. Five minutes later Buxted went
two up, again through Johnny Barton who was now beginning to eye the
match ball as he and Ricky Parish continued to menace the Plumpton
backline.
Almost directly from restart Plumpton picked
their heads up and worked their way down the Buxted left where a
sweet cross was half-volleyed into the net by the lone striker who
had all the time in the world to pick his spot. The game was now
offically on fire after a late tackle on Johnny again spurred him on
to finish crisply from six yards for a fine first half hatrick.
Although Buxted dominated the first half and had all the chances
further defensive frailties down the left combined with some “Goal
keeping calamities” allowed Plumpton right back into the match and
end the first half at 3 - 3.
Five minutes into the second half Plumpton
broke straight through the heart of the Buxted defence and put
themselves ahead for the first time in the match. However, Buxted
were starting to play well, Andy King had finally recovered from his
Friday night and was starting to pull some strings in centre
midfield, combining well with the two industrious strikers. This
momentum continued as Ricky Parish finally added his name to the
score sheet to level the match at 4 – 4. Plumpton then replied
quickly managing to contrive yet another scrappy goal to once again
take the lead as the defence failed to pick up their men.
Buxted were in no mood to let an easy 3 points
slip away, after further pressure Lee Turner put in a floated corner
for target man Ricky Parish to dispatch with ease after out jumping
the Plumpton rear-guard. 5 – 5 , but not for long as Plumpton
scored once more against the run of play to make it 6 – 5 and Buxted
just couldn’t believe their bad luck!
Finally Buxted had seen all there was to see of
the Plumpton Attack and managed to shut them out for the remainder
of the game, Harper starting to command his box (Including a rare
punched clearance from a corner) leaving it up to the midfield and
Front line to secure the victory. From a free kick on the right
wing Lee turner thumped the ball into the net past a shell shocked
Plumpton Wall and just five minutes later Simon Barton popped up
down the left on the edge of the box to lob the ball over the hobbit
like Plumpton Keeper. Game over, 6 – 7 Buxted and a well earnt 3
points.
