2005 / 2006 Season 11/03/2006Despite the adverse result, Buxted put up a spirited performance against promotion certainties Crowborough. Two goals towards the end of each half gave a distorted picture of the game, although Crowborough were the better side and deserved the points. The midfield partnership of Andy King and Gareth Houkes created problems with some good passing and running but were too often caught in possession. With the ball rarely reaching the flanks, Buxted hardly threatened the home sides goal and were forced on the defensive for most of the game. Inevitably the gaps opened and the goals went in. The addition of a forward who could hold the ball up would ease the constant pressure in the thirds which, despite its position, does have the makings of a decent side and does not lack commitment, effort and individual skill. It was good to see Steve Carvey getting back to form with some robust intervention but it was substitute Matt Scott who impressed most when he came on at half time and was duly made Man of the Match.
