Club History

One can only imagine what it must have been like at the end of the Great War with thousands of young men returning to the UK, some to the relative tranquility of Buxted and the surrounding countryside. One of the welcome signs of normality was the return of organized sport and so it was in 1918 that Buxted Football Club was officially founded. Perhaps some of the players in those first games had been through the horrors of the trenches and one of the appeals of football may have been the comradeship that the game engenders, a comradeship that helped many through the trials of war.

Buxted FC has been going ever since, playing in various leagues until it found its current home in the Mid Sussex League. The club has three teams, presently in the First, Sixth and Tenth divisions, thus catering for almost all standards of play. The clubs ambition is to return to the Sussex County League which is a level above the Mid Sussex, and has recently been awarded FA Charter Standard Adult club status.

Football at the Buxted FC level is a world removed from the highly paid professional game. Players play only because they love the game. Unpaid officials unselfishly devote much of their time to running the club and unpaid team managers can be found in all weathers on the touchlines encouraging and coaching the players.

If you are interested in supporting the club or perhaps getting involved in some way or you would like to play (the club does have use of superb all weather training facilities) do come along to the Recreation ground off the Framfield road. Games start at 2PM most Saturdays and hot food and a licensed bar is available
