Third Team Match Reports

Three wins on the spin for youthful thirds
Buxted III 3 Ardingly III 1
Saturday 26th September, Mid Sussex Division 10
Performing in front of a capacity crowd at the Buxted Rec the thirds extended their winning streak by beating a big and strong Ardingly side. From the very first whistle Buxted showed great promise with with the ball, moving it around neatly and creating good chances to open their account. Bertie Hudson looked the most likely to undo the Ardingly defence but the breakthrough goal came after Tom Harding set Alan Curtis free to delicately chip the keeper and give Buxted a well deserved early lead.
With continued pressure Buxted always looked a threat on the break, superior pace down the flanks constantly exposed Ardingly and it was a long ball over the top that gave Bertie his chance to pop the ball in the net after the Ardingly Keeper misjudged the bounce and found himself with egg on his face. For Buxted's third Bertie turned provider, collecting the ball to feet just inside the box, and whipping in a perfectly weighted cross for Tinker to head home unmarked from three yards.
Despite always looking dangerous Buxted did have defensive work to do as Ardingly appeared to be winning the midfield aerial battle, but centrebacks John Jeffery and Nigel Fox dealt with most attacks well enough but improved communication may have made this more comfortable. Ardingly sneaking a goal just before the close of the first half, with a break down the Buxted left leading to a series of failed clearances that eventually presented Ardingly with their opportunity.
The second half saw Buxted continue to press for more goals, but opportunities seemed to be harder to find as Ardingly started to get into the game. Hard work was order of the day and the whole team worked tirelessly in their efforts to steal the winner, with both wingers running themselves into the ground. On 60 mins Dan Selby made his debut appearance when brought on for Nigel Fox, and Alex Robinson was introduced shortly after for Shane Bills. Chances continued to be made and missed, a noteable weaving run by Bertie being the highlight, though the finish failed to match the run.
The last 15 minutes Buxted lost a bit of shape with players beginning to drift from their positions, but the game was all but over. Jórn Made a great stop toward the end of the game to ensure no nerve jangling finish, and overall Buxted were worthy and clear winners, continuing their great start to the season.
Man of the Match goes to Bertie Hudson, who was a live wire all game, and a real handful for the Ardingly back line. Special mention to Jack Evans who started out of position at right back yet looked composed and classy throughout, pushing Bertie all the way for the Man of the Match award.

Strike two, Buxted win again!!
Buxted III 3 Hassocks Hornets 2
Saturday 19th September, Mid Sussex Division 10
Buxted went into this game knowing that it was going to be hard. and in the first 10 minutes they made things hard for themselves. 15 minutes into the game with a defensive slip up the hornetts went 1 up. That seemed to give Buxted the kick they needed because they then created chances and got back into the game through Alex Christie who slotted home a tidy equliser for Bux. It started to get onesided with Bux having most of the ball but it remained level at halftime.
The second half started and bux came out off the blocks like a bull in a china shop and just 10 minutes into the second half Billsy smashed one past the stranded Hornets keeper. As the game went on Bux were growing in confidence, and it paid off with another Gareth Houkes corner swept in off the head of Nigel Fox.
In the fional 10 minutes of the game the Hornetts got a goal back and they were pressing all the way to the final whistle, but with players like Tinker battling away to the death Buxted managed to keep them at bay and come away with another win. Good work from the whole team brought this result.

Buxted 3rds off to a great start
Buxted III 1 Lindfield V 0
Saturday 12th September, Mid Sussex Division 10
Buxted got off to a good start creating chances in a fairly one sided first half but just couldn't seem to get the goal they needed to settle the side down, with Alex Robinson coming closest just before half-time by hitting the crossbar. The second half continued in the same vein until the deadlock was broken in the 60th minute when a Gareth Houkes corner was deflected in to the net care of Alex Robinsons shin...nice finish! Lindfiled got stronger as the game progressed, but the Buxted back line remained firm until the final whistle, with Buxted collecting a well deserved 3 points.
